Cocktail Hour: The French 75

Cocktail Hour

Sometimes, all you want is a cocktail.

It doesn’t have to be some fancy business with egg white and 10 minutes of shaking (though that is delicious too). It just needs to be a step up from opening a beer or pouring a glass of wine. Simple ingredients yielding maximum cocktail joy?

You want a French 75.

Honestly, I always want a French 75.

It is my go to cocktail. Simple construction aside, this is a drink of balance and grace. Effervescence and depth. Sweetness and zest. It is the cocktail version of the manic pixie dream girl in the best possible way.

My feelings for this picture are confusing.

Look at her! She’s gorgeous!

What you want to do is gather up the following-

  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice (don’t use that plastic bottle crap you heathen)
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 2 ounces dry sparkling wine (cava works nicely) chilled
  • Shake up the gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and ice.

    Strain into a flute.

    Top with the bubbles.

Slap a lemon twist on that lady and you look like James Bond but for the love of god do NOT drop in a shitty maraschino cherry.

Go on, fancify your life and impress your friends! All you have to do is shake, strain, top and repeat. Seriously, it’s that simple.
